History
Founded in 1993, the Friends of Arts Education at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts strives to make the performing arts accessible to young people without regard to socio-economic, geographic, or intellectual barriers, both real and perceived .
Our first year of operation was simple; we subsidized tickets for 800 students to attend events at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.
Over the last fifteen years, the Friends education program has grown to serve over 30,000 students, teachers and families each year throughout southern California. There are currently more than twenty-two regional school districts as well as private and home schools benefiting from our Friends program - in classrooms and at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. |

Friends Youth Arts Education Program
Daytime Educational Performances at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts are the core of our program and are intended to expose students of all ages to, and educate them about, the disciplines of the performing arts. To assist educators in preparing students for their upcoming theatre experience, the Friends provides curriculum materials and ideas of each show through Professional Development Workshops. After performances, the teachers and students return to the classroom to engage in artistic activities inspired by the performance. Every year, the Friends receive thousands of thank you letters and pieces of artwork from students who have participated in the educational programs. |

Scholarship
The Friends created the Performing
Arts Scholarship Program to support and encourage high school seniors from local school districts in their pursuit of a performing arts career. Scholarships are awarded in the disciplines of dance, drama, vocal music (classical voice and musical theatre) and instrumental music.
