The Performance
The Incredible Speediness of Jamie Cavanaugh explores with
humor, insight and compassion, the hurt and confusion of
being different when you can't help it as well as the power of
facing up to your problems even when others don't seem to
understand. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
(ADHD) begins in childhood and has only recently been
understood and properly recognized in children as a health
condition, rather than a behavior problem. During the play,
the character of Jamie Cavanaugh will likely remind audience
members of someone they know - a student who is often told
"Slow down!" "Pay attention!" "You're a trouble magnet!"
The champion in this story is a positive role model for young
people with ADHD. This remarkable play promotes greater
empathy and understanding around learning disabilities
among teachers and students alike.
