The Performance

Asian Treasure Bag is a potpourri of myths and folk tales drawn from the Asian world. Ancient metaphors meet modern messages through dramatic interpretations of timeheld stories. Eth-Noh-Tec's repertoire of Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Korean, Indian and Tibetan Stories (to name just a sample of cultures represented) introduce heroines and rogues, foolish monkeys, and wise old women. Through classic plotlines and characters the audiences young and old are reminded of timeless wisdom: good is rewarded, evil is punished, wisdom prevails over cleverness, and one must listen to the muses for advice.

Eth-Noh-Tec's style may be described as choreographed storytelling in which words and movement are gracefully, playfully, and poetically woven. By layering ancient Asian mythologies, folktales, and Asian urban legends with Asian American sensibilities, Eth-Noh-Tec has created an exciting new blend of storytelling and physical theater.

This workshop will emphasize the power of storytelling to bring people together. The hands-on activities will give participants the opportunity to experience the spoken word and movement as one, thus providing invaluable insights into Eth-Noh-Tec's artistry. Participants will also acquire effective teaching tools for engaging students in history and social studies. A written curriculum guide will be distributed to facilitate implementation of activities in classrooms.
